This is the first meeting in the series of webinars Smart Pope. To the Sources of Pope Francis’s Teaching.

Pope Lev XIII created a turning point in the Catholic Church by his most famous encyclical Rerum Novarum (1891). The latter became the first social encyclical and thus formed the basis of the modern Church’s Social Doctrine.

As it happened often with Rerum Novarum, the pages of the recent social Pope Francis’s encyclical Fratelli tutti (2020) have become a real gold mine for Christian lay people who deal with social and political issues.

In the meeting, we will observe the evolution of Social Teaching of the Church from Rerum Novarum encyclical, the 130th anniversary of which we celebrate this year, to the challenges of modernity which are discussed in Pope Francis’s encyclical Fratelli tutti.
